ADDICTION

Addiction happens for a variety of reasons – to alleviate social anxiety, to numb the pain of domestic or sexual abuse, to lessen the grief of relationship separation or bereavement –

You may have grown up in a family where addiction is an issue – it may be harder to abstain than join in.

It doesn’t matter – substances are powerful antidotes – until they become the problem themselves. Recovering from alcohol and drug abuse effectively requires skilful and knowledgeable support and guidance at every stage until you feel strong enough to take on and implement those techniques yourself.

There is a way through and a way forward.

I have spent the last 10 years of my life working with addicts from all walks of life.

Alcoholics, crack addicts, coke addicts, heroin addicts, marijuana addicts.

Sex addicts, love addicts, internet addicts, gambling addicts and shopping addicts.

Understanding addiction and the nature of addiction gives me insight and inroads into human nature.

I work many hours each week in group and individual therapy with clients in recovery from substance abuse. The framework available for people who really want to get clean is present and far reaching. But you will have to engage and buy in to the process 100 percent.

I will be with you all the way.

The desperation that individuals and their family members feel when the addict hits rock bottom is raw and vivid.

I work with addicts to humanise their situation, to provide a place of safety and stability where they may process past trauma, and allow them to establish a self renewal where they have the potential to reclaim their authentic self and rejoin their friends and family in a healthier happier state.

At the beginning of our work this may seem hard to imagine.

It is important to embrace a network of help to drive forward, with therapy, possibly with medication, and connection to available recovery resources that will provide support, skills and techniques to help the addict secure their sobriety and realise and represent their new reality in a revised format.

I will help you put together a programme that is relevant and speaks to you in a personal and practical way. That makes sense for you.

I am connected to many support groups who will help addicts and their family members consistently to understand how you reached this place and how to map out a way back.

More details of these support networks are outlined on my blog page.
